Myanmar Highlights 11 Days
Day 1 – Arrive Yangon
You will be met by your local guide on arrival at Yangon airport and transferred to your hotel for a two night stay.
Day 2 – Yangon
Sightseeing highlights include the awe-inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda, Chaukhtatkyi Pagoda, housing a colossal reclining Buddha, and the National Museum, filled with artifacts and cultural exhibits of Myanmar. (B,L)
Day 3 – Yangon to Mandalay
Private guided transfer to Yangon airport for a flight to Mandalay. Travel to the former royal capital of Amarapura. Visit Mahagandayon monastery and the U Bein Bridge which, at 1.2 km, is the longest teakwood span in the world. Drive back to Mandalay and explore the city. Watch local artisans hammering gold leaf, and enjoy the view from Mandalay Hill. Stay two nights in Mandalay. (B,L)
Day 4 – Inwa Excursion and Mandalay
Today visit another former royal capital, Inwa which was founded in 1364 and which lasted nearly 400 years as a royal capital. Highlights include the ‘ leaning tower of Ava’, Maha Aungmye Bonzan, a brick-and-stucco monastery, and the elegant teakwood monastery Bagaya Kyaung. Return to Mandalay for an afternoon visit to Kuthodaw Pagoda and Shwenandaw Monastery. (B,L)
Day 5 – Mandalay – Bagan
Private guided transfer to Mandalay airport for a flight to Bagan. On arrival private guided transfer to your hotel. After check-in, begin a sightseeing tour of one of Asia’s most popular archaeological destinations. Visit a variety of the many distinctive temples that abound on Bagan Plain, built hundreds of years ago in a period of great religious fervour. At dusk, watch the sun go down across Bagan Plain. Stay two nights in Bagan. (B,L)
Day 6 – Mt Popa Excursion
Morning drive to Mt. Popa, an extinct volcano which is renowned as home of the Nats (spirit gods) and provides a panoramic view of the surrounding plains. Return to Bagan for further sightseeing amongst the temples. Close to sunset, take a scenic boat ride along the Ayerarwady River for views of other notable monuments. (B,L,)
Day 7 – Bagan to Heho to Inle
Private guided transfer to Bagan airport for a flight to Heho. On arrival proceed to beautiful Inle Lake. See the fisherman rowing in the one-legged style characteristic of Inle Lake boatmen, and floating gardens of grass and earth on the shallow lake’s surface. See traditional silk weaving and visit the ‘jumping cats’ monastery. Stay two nights in a lakeside hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 8 – Inle Lake
Travel by boat on a scenic stream to Indain and its enchanting 16th century pagodas. (B,L,D)
Day 9 – Inle – Yangon
Private guided boat and road transfer to Heho airport for a flight to Yangon. On arrival private guided transfer to your hotel for a two-night stay. Visit Scott Market to browse amongst the many stalls. (B,L)
Day 10 – Twante excursion
Drive to the jetty and take a boat to Dala, located across the river from the capital, then travel by jeep (40 minutes) to Twante, a small town known for its pottery and cotton weaving. Hop on a trishaw to visit the craft workshops and see their well designed wares. Sightseeing includes crossing the canal to the villages to observe their way of life. Return to Yangon via Dala and from the dockside take a guided walk up scenic Pansondan Street which is lined with colonial style buildings from the British period. (B,L)
Day 11 – Depart Yangon
Private guided transfer to the airport for your exit flight. (B)
