  • Tour Itinerary

    Day 1 – Australia – Wilpattu
Fly with Singapore Airlines to Colombo airport where you will be met and transferred north to Wilpattu National Park. Begin your wildlife experience with a sunset safari on the lookout for nocturnal animals such as the Loris, Night Jars and Civet Cats. Stay three nights in a 4 star nature retreat in Anuradhapura, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. (D)
    Day 2 – Anuradhapura
Tour the old city this morning. See RuwanweliSeya monument, the sacred Bo tree planted from a sapling from the historical tree in India under which Lord Buddha became enlightened, and the 3rd century BC Thuparama Dagoba. Return to Wilpattu for an educational safari with discussions on animal behaviour, animal tracks, and alarm calls of the wild. There are excellent photographic opportunities at the sand rimmed lakes. (B,L,D)
    Day 3 – Wilpattu
Your community based guide will take you on an early morning bush walk, then after breakfast travel to the boundaries of Wilpattu to meet a Jungle farmer and learn of his experience farming in the wild. You will be touched by the simplicity of his ways and lack of concern for the modern world. Return to the park for a safari, with lunch served at a scenic location. A post-lunch discussion will follow with insights on leopard behaviour and recent sightings. (B,L,D)
    Day 4 – Sigiriya
Visit Sigiriya and climb the 600 ft to the top. This fortress in the sky was the seat of an Ancient Sinhala King and the base of it is as stunningly beautiful as the vistas from the top. An afternoon safari with the resident naturalist will get you up close to herds of Asian elephants, birds and plants. See the world famous elephant ‘gathering’ in July and August. Stay overnight in an eco lodge. The cottages have hot and cold water and ceiling fans (no air-conditioning). (B,L,D)
    Day 5 – Depart Colombo
Take one last early morning safari to view aquatic birds, this time on an ‘Oruwa’- two traditional outrigger canoes modified to hold a safari platform. After breakfast transfer to Colombo airport for the flight home. (B)
    Day 6 – Arrive Australia
