Day 1 – Wednesday – Arrive Hanoi
On arrival in Hanoi meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Stay two nights at the Essence Hanoi Hotel.
Day 2 – Hanoi
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon take a city tour by cyclo and minivan. (B)
Day 3 – Hanoi – Halong Bay
Travel to Halong by coach for an overnight cruise in a wooden junk on beautiful Halong Bay. Seafood lunch and dinner are served on board. Stay one night on the Glory Legend cruise boat. (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Halong Bay – Hanoi – Lao Cai
Further cruising around the rocky limestone islands. Disembark at Halong and travel back to downtown Hanoi. In the evening transfer to the rail station for the overnight train to Lao Cai. Stay one night on the Orient Express or King Express. (B)
Day 5 – Lao Cai – Bach Ha Sunday Market – Sapa
Arrive early morning at Lao Cai Station, near the Chinese border. Travel by road and river boat to visit some of the northern hill tribe villages. Drive on to Bac Ha for the colourful market then to Sapa. Stay two nights at the U Sapa Hotel.
Day 6 – Ta Van excursion
Take a guided trek into the Muong Hoa Valley with views of terrace rice fields and the Fansipan mountain range. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 7 – Cat Cat Village – Lao Cai – Hanoi
Visit Cat Cat village, home to the Black Hmong hill tribe. Afternoon at leisure before transferring back to the Lao Cai station. Stay one night on the Orient Express or King Express. (B)
Day 8 – Arrive Hanoi
At leisure in Hanoi. Stay one night at the Essence Hanoi Hotel. (B)
Day 9 – Hanoi – Dong Hoi
Spend the day on the Re-Unification Express train travelling south to Dong Hoi. Stay one night at the Sun Spa Resort. (B)
Day 10 – Paradise Cave – DMZ – Hue
Visit nearby Paradise Cave and the demilitarized zone (DMZ), the division line between North and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Continue on to Hue. Stay two nights at the Eldora Hotel. (B)
Day 11 – Hue
Afternoon visit to the Imperial Citadel and the elaborate Khai Dinh Royal Tomb. (B)
Day 12 – Hue – Danang – Hoi An
Transfer to Hoi An via the scenic Cloud Pass, visiting Non Nuoc Beach and Marble Mountains en route. Take a walking tour of Hoi An Ancient Town. Stay two nights at the Essence Hoi An Hotel & Spa. (B)
Day 13 – Hoi An
Day at leisure. (B)
Day 14 – Hoi An – Danang – Saigon & Cu Chi Tunnels
Fly from Danang airport to Saigon. Tour the Cu Chi Tunnels and see rice paper being made. Stay two nights at the Liberty Central Saigon Centre. (B)
Day 15 – Saigon
Afternoon city tour of Saigon. (B)
Day 16 – Saigon – Can Tho – Vinh Long
Leave Saigon early for a five hour drive to Can Tho. Board a junk for a cruise to floating markets and riverbank villages of the Mekong Delta. Stay one night on the Bassac junk boat. (L,D)
Day 17 – Vinh Long – Cai Be – Saigon
Breakfast at sunrise as you approach the sights and sounds of the Cai Be floating market. Disembark at Cai Be and tour local family businesses before travelling back to Saigon. Stay one night at the Liberty Central Saigon Centre. (B)
Day 18 – Depart Saigon
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
